IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO EVERYDAY!!!
1. Eat Healthy Foods: eating well supports a child’s healthy growth and development 2. Exercise Every Day: daily exercise helps to reduce overweight and obesity, increases strength in muscles and bones, and improves concentration for learning 3. Limit screen time: less screen time means a better body and mind for kids 4. Get a good night’s sleep: improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, and overall mental and physical health During this statewide school shutdown, please know I am available to you during regular school hours, Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. If your student is experiencing negative feelings related to our current situation, here are some coping strategies to work through together:
1. Talk about your feelings with people you trust! 2. If you have questions, ask those you trust to help you. 3. Keep in touch with your teacher, classmates, and other friends even though you are unable to see them right now. 4. If you feel anxious, restless, or tense, take some time to sit and slow your breathing. Try this by taking a slow breath in and then exhaling with a slow breath as well; do this about 5-6 times for calming, and as you do so, think of something positive like a fun experience or a beautiful, peaceful picture or place you have seen or visited. 5. Finally, set small daily goals for yourself. Keep your focus on things you CAN do! Always be on the lookout for something fun to do while “social distancing” at home. This will shift your thoughts away from worry and allow you to have fun! Remember, make every day a great day or not….the choice is YOURS! Stay healthy. I will see you soon. Mrs. Shea |
